The 1st IAHR Online Forum, hosted by the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and supported by IWHR, officially kicked off on July 5.

Professor Joseph H.W. Lee, President of IAHR, briefed the audience upon IAHR in his opening address. He introduced the strategic plan of the organization as well as its three focus areas – ecological hydraulics, artificial intelligence (AI) and water resources, and water security in Africa. He also thanked IWHR for the genuine support that helped IAHR continue expanding its global influence by organizing the series of popular online events during the pandemic.
IWHR Vice President Dr. PENG Jing spoke highly of IAHR’s fast response to the COVID-19 pandemic by renewing its IT system and switching to virtual events. She also introduced IWHR’s latest research in the systematic management and improvement of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes and grasslands as well as its recently published River Happiness Report. She called on the international community to strengthen cooperation to tackle global challenges in water and environment together.
IAHR Executive Director Tom Soo chaired the opening session. The keynote speech session was co-chaired by IAHR’s former President Roger Falconer and former Vice President Arthur Mynett.
The 1st IAHR Online Forum lasted for seven days, gathering more than 160 experts to share their views in 24 technical sessions. Topics discussed include water and COVID-19, nature-based solutions, ecohydraulics, water infrastructure, flood risk management, hydroinformatics application, water challenges in Africa, etc.
