Abstract: A physical model test of pure frequency method for detecting pipeline leaks suggested by the authors was carried out to verify its effectiveness. It is found that if the pipe is not long enough or the closure time of valve is not short enough, the sufficient data of transient peaks could not be obtained for the analysis. Thus, short-duration transient generated by the valve is suggested in the application of the method. The influence of different treatment ways of valve boundary on pure frequency model was also investigated. The results show that the excited discharge by sharp closure of valve cannot be simply regarded as impulse function, and the changing process of discharge should be considered. The study on anti-noise property confirms that this method is robust to the system noise.
