Abstract: Since canals are usually constructed on different types of rock bodies, the stability of rock bodies has become a key issue to ensure safe service of these projects. Therefore, in canal lining and seepage prevention for canals, it is necessary to take proper measures to reinforce the stability of canal foundation and slope so as to ensure the safety of canal engineering according to the engineering properties of rock, canal type, grade and size. This paper summarized revising and compiling of the chapter "Stability of Canal Foundation and Slope" of GB Technical Specification for Seepage Prevention Engineering on Canal. In view of the upgrade need from an industrial specification to a national specification, proper content adjustment was made and more content was introduced. These revisions included the chapter renaming from Canal Foundation Stability to Stability of Canal Foundation and Slope, introducing "Safety Factor of Slope" and "Desert Canal" as two sub-sections. In addition, some advanced technologies and new materials and new methods were introduced for reinforcement of canal foundation and slope of special soils (such as loess, expansive soil, dispersive soil, salted soil, frozen soil and desert soil).

Key words: canal, special soil, foundation and slope, stability
