Since its establishment in 1958, the Department of Structures & Materials of IWHR has been mainly focusing on conducting researches and providing engineering solutions for the applied fundamental theories and technical problems encountered in the design, construction and operation of large and intermediate scale hydraulic and hydropower projects. It has been actively involved in the related research topics granted by the national scientific and technological development programs, National Science Foundation, State Ministry of Water Resources and domestic hydropower development corporations of different river basins, creating scientific guides for engineering design, construction and macro-policy making of the state. Up to now, the department has undertaken several hundreds of science and technology development research projects on hydraulic and hydropower construction, among which some prominent names are the Three Gorges Project, Xiaolangdi, Xiaowan, Jinping Stage I, Xiluodu, Laxiwa, Longtan, Guanzhao, Shapai, Shuibuya, Hongjiadu, and central line of Water Transfer from South China to North China and has solved numerous complex engineering problems.
The Beijing IWHR-KHL Co., Ltd. was founded in 1993 as a technology-oriented enterprise through the reform of the scientific and technological development system of IWHR. With the Department of Structures and Materials of IWHR as the technical support and IWHR as the controlling stakeholder, the company has a registered capital asset of 15,710,000 RMB. As a high-tech enterprise belonging to the Beijing Zhongguancun Science and Technology Development Zone, the company is dedicated to the research, development, promotion and application of new construction materials and technologies and has become a modern enterprise with multiple functions of marketing, research, technology development, construction and manufacturing. It has passed the ISO9001－2000 certification and owns a class-II contractor qualification for the foundation treatment of hydraulic structures.
The company now has a staff totaling over 150, with more than 70% holding a bachelor degree or above and masters and Ph.D.s taking a proportion of more than 20%. Among them, more than 20% have senior professional titles.

Representative products/projects
GB waterstop materials have been applied in more than 100 hydropower stations in and outside China, including Shuibuya Hydropower Station. Our company has conducted optimization of concrete mixing and performance test for over 100 hydropower stations, including the Three Gorges Project. We have also completed the inspection, safety assessment, repair and reinforcement of a large number of hydraulic structures, as well as the construction of bituminous concrete face for the upper reservoirs of many pumped-storage power plants.
